ThinkForge User Guide

ThinkForge keeps your project documents, search, notes, Tools, and automations together. You work with ordinary files on your computer, while the desktop app adds ways to find, connect, and use them.

Install ThinkForge Desktop before connecting the Chrome extension, an AI client, or the mobile app. Those connections need the desktop app to be running.

The Automations tab is where you build an automation. You place Tool cards on a canvas, connect them, add rules to the connections, test with Run, and save the result with Publish to Library.

The Think Forge Extension is an optional Chrome extension that connects supported AI-chat pages and browser content to the ThinkForge desktop app. Its active beta features include conversation navigation, bookmarks, cross-platform branching, desktop launchers, project-document insertion, and browser-to-project capture.

Open a code or plain-text file in a main-window tab to edit its text. The code editor shows line numbers, syntax highlighting where available, and your line and column position.

Use Floating Navigator to find project files, search, and use Smart Clipboard while working in another application. It shows the project folder tree in a separate window. Select a document to read or edit it in a popup beside the navigator.

ThinkForge can open focused help for the control you are currently using. The help window searches the bundled User Docs project, so its results describe the same released behavior as this guide.

Your connected AI client calls these operations when you ask it to work with ThinkForge. You do not need to write requests yourself. Tell it the project, task, and whether it may change files.

Mind Map is a visual workspace for organizing a project, planning a system, or breaking a large idea into manageable parts. You can build a map with ThinkForge's Tool Agent, turn the current project's folder structure into a map, or start with one node and build it yourself.

ThinkForge Mobile is the Android companion to ThinkForge Desktop. Use it to browse the desktop's active project and work with documents, tasks, and Tools over your local network. ThinkForge Desktop saves the changes.

Use Power Strip's Agent and Automation buttons to run configured workflows without opening the full Tools page. Each button keeps its own settings and saved input.

Overview is Project Navigator's project summary. It is designed for quick re-entry: open the project, scan what exists and what was recently active, then move to the folder, workspace, or document you need.

Project templates give new projects a head start. Instead of creating an empty project and building structure from scratch, you select a template that provisions a set of documents, folders, and optionally agent deployments tailored to a specific type of work.

Semantic search helps you find related meaning even when your query does not repeat the document's exact words. ThinkForge prepares local representations of document text, called embeddings, to support this search and related-document suggestions.

Reuse things you copied earlier without finding them again. Smart Clipboard keeps a persistent history of text, files, folders, and images across all your projects.

ThinkForge themes can be created through the Theme Editor in the desktop app, or by writing JSON files directly. This document covers both approaches and explains the structure of a theme file.

External service integrations require credentials — API keys or OAuth tokens — to authenticate. This document covers how credentials are stored, configured, and used by tools.

Voice to Text turns an explicit microphone recording into editable text with a local Whisper model. Desktop recordings are captured and transcribed locally on your Windows or Mac computer. The Android companion can send a recording directly to the paired desktop, where transcription still runs locally. No online transcription service is used.
