Overview

Overview is Project Navigator's project summary. It is designed for quick re-entry: open the project, scan what exists and what was recently active, then move to the folder, workspace, or document you need.

Overview is generated from project data. It is not a configurable dashboard.

Section Cards

The center area shows six cards. Each card includes a title, item count, description, and a preview of up to three entries. An empty section says No items yet.

  • Workspaces — Saved project workspaces, in workspace sort order.
  • Pinned — Project-local pinned documents and folders.
  • Shortcuts — Quick-access references. Shortcuts are global, although some targets resolve against the current project.
  • Recents — Up to 20 recently accessed documents in the current project.
  • Project Folders — Top-level directories on disk.
  • Tags — Your tags, ordered by document count.

Top-level Project Folders excludes dot-prefixed folders, bin, obj, node_modules, dist, and .git. That exclusion belongs to Overview; other browsing surfaces may use a slightly different filter.

Details

Select a section card to show its entries in the Project Navigator info panel. The detail view includes the section heading and up to 60 entries with a title and supporting text.

These detail rows are display-only in the current beta. Use the folder tree or the corresponding Project Navigator view to open or modify a specific item.

Data Sources

Overview reads current data from the project:

  • Workspace definitions saved with the project
  • Project-local pins and the shortcut registry
  • Recent-document history, the same history every other Recents surface uses
  • Top-level folders on disk
  • Tags from indexed documents

Sections load independently. A card shows a loading state while its source is being read, and an error message if that source cannot be loaded.

When to Use Overview

Use Overview when you need orientation across the project. Use Files to browse a folder, Workspace to recover an activity context or saved stream of work, Insights to audit manual links, and Clusters to explore relationships spatially. Use the separate Automations tab to edit a tool chain.

The folder tree remains available beside Home. The info panel must be enabled to show a selected card's full detail list.
