Open a code or plain-text file in a main-window tab to edit its text. The code editor shows line numbers, syntax highlighting where available, and your line and column position.
Use the main ThinkForge window for these files. Separate document windows opened from Floating Navigator do not provide the same code-editor workflow.
Open and edit a file
Choose the file in Project Navigator, or use File → Open.... The extension determines the language highlighting. An unknown extension opened directly uses plain-text editing.
Not every file type that the editor can open is shown in the project browser.
The editor offers folding, bracket matching, suggestions, and a minimap for navigating longer files. Suggestions and formatting depend on the language.
Save your changes
Use File → Save or your configured Save Now shortcut. The default is Ctrl+S.
Saving an existing file writes to its current path using UTF-8 text. Check the result when editing a file that originally used a different text encoding.
If saving fails, check the file permissions and whether another application is locking it.
If the editor does not load
The code editor needs internet access to load its editor engine. Offline availability is not guaranteed, even if you have opened it before.
Check your connection and reopen the file. If you need to work offline, use an external text editor.
For formatted prose, see Document editor. For table and media viewing, see View files.
